Doug Forster built the “Doug’s Maps” app’s as commercial apps. This SERVICE is provided by Doug Forster and is intended for use as is.
These apps use open source data supplied by the New Zealand Government but is not affiliated with the New Zealand Government in any way. Data used to create these maps is supplied by Government departments Land Information New Zealand (data.linz.govt.nz/data/) and Department of Conservation (https://doc-deptconservation.opendata.arcgis.com/). The resultant maps are designed to be similar to government supplied raster maps but presented in vector form.
This page is used to inform visitors regarding my policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information for users of my apps.
The GPS feature needs to access location data even while the app is in the background. This is potentially a privacy issue. DougsMaps only accesses location data while the GPS toolbar is present after you activate the “Start GPS” menu item or use other menu presses that achieve the same toolbar. Access ceases when the X button on the bar is pressed or you exit the app. Location data is optionally saved in a database on the device only.
Step counting is also regarded by some as a privacy issue. If enabled this feature is also only active when the GPS toolbar is present and the resultant data is saved with the track log and subject to the same privacy policy.
Location and step count data is only ever shared with other parties if you actively choose to do this via a menu option or by physical connection to a computer. At present this is done manually via gpx files. There may be other methods in future but they will always be manually activated.
DougsMaps does not collect any other personal information in normal use but in the event of an error may collect information such as your device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app, the time and date and other technical statistics.

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
